Leonardo DiCaprio Drops Out of Mel Gibson's Viking Film

Leonardo DiCapriohas had major second thoughts about starring inMel Gibson’s Norse-language viking movie in the wake of the shamed director’s legal battles with Oksana Grigorieva.

"Inception"star Leonardo DiCaprio has reportedly withdrawn from a planned movie chronicling the exploits of Viking warriors that Gibson was slated to direct.

A source close to DiCaprio, asked if the actor was still lined up for the Viking film, said:"Not a chance. Leo has earned the right to pick and choose who he works with and Mel Gibson is not one of them."

DiCaprio has been expressing his excitement to star in the film, but is now refusing to comment. Back in June, the actor said:"I've always wanted to do Viking Story. I'm a big history buff and I don't think there's been a really fantastic Viking film ever made. Those were some of the most barbaric people ever in history. I'd love to see Mel Gibson's version of that."

Detectives are investigating Oksana’s claims that Mel, 54, punched her in the face twice as she held their infant daughter, Lucia, during a domestic dispute at his Malibu mansion on Jan. 6.

The viking film was to be Leo’s first picture with Mel but a source close to the 35-year-old says he doesn’t want to risk his reputation by being associated with Mel.

Arterton to return for 'Titans' sequel

Gemma Arterton has announced that she will return for the second instalment of Clash of the Titans.

"Clash of the Titans"fought its way through withering critical reviews and a ho-hum domestic box office this spring to become a worldwide hit with almost $500 million in ticket sales. For the upcoming sequel, Warner Bros. is changing up key pieces of the franchise— from bringing in a new director to shooting the movie in 3-D rather than converting it in post-production — in a quest to make the next"Clash"even more successful.

Gemma told MTV News that no contracts have been signed, but she expects to take part in the sequel when details are finalised.

"I think I am doing the second Clash,"she said.

"I don't know anything about it yet though. It's one of those things."

Arterton went on to give the standard line about how actors that sign on to franchises are optioned for further installments, but in previous interviews, she has indicated that no such deal was in place. In any case, now we know: Arterton will return as Worthington’s love interest Io. What’s more, she’s hoping her character gets to kick a little more ass in the sequel.

“I think she needs to be less mythical and more real and go for the fighting,” she said. “It’s fun, as well, doing all that stuff.”

Other aspects of the swords-and-sandals epic will remain the same, including the return of Sam Worthington.

Casey Affleck denies sexual harassment claims

Casey Affleckhas denied claims that he sexually harassed a woman working on his documentary about actorJoaquin Phoenix.

In a statement, he called the allegations by Amanda White"preposterous and without merit".

Amanda White, a producer on Joaquin Phoenix: I'm Still Here, alleged that she was subjected to"uninvited and unwelcome sexual advances"from Affleck.

Her $2m lawsuit also claims Affleck, who is a director on the film, said he would not pay her after she refused to spend a night with him in a hotel room.

Affleck's lawyer Michael Plonsker said:" Ms. White was terminated from the production over a year ago."

"She and her lawyers believe that this maliciously and erroneously filed complaint will cause the producers to succumb to her outrageous and baseless demands. She is mistaken."

Phoenix surprised movie fans in 2008 when he announced plans to quit acting and launch a hip-hop career.

It later emerged that the stunt was Affleck's documentary, which is due to be released later this year.

Daniel Craig lands 'Dragon Tattoo' role

Daniel Craighas reportedly closed a deal to star in the US version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Craig will play journalist Mikael Blomkvist in David Fincher’s adaptation of hit Swedish thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. And according to Deadline, he hasn’t just locked in a deal for the first movie– he’s got options for the sequels, which should they happen, will be based on follow-up books The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest.

Craig will play Mikael Blomkvist who fancies himself as an amateur detective and is immersed in crime writing culture. He attempts to solve a complex case involving the mysterious disappearance of a 16 year old some 40 years ago. The character is written for someone in their 40's, and Craig clearly has that Nordic look (blonde, blue eyes) and feels more right for the movie than Fincher’s usual cohort Brad Pitt, who was once rumored for the movie.

Director David Fincher and producer Scott Rudin are reportedly still in the process of casting the role of Lisbeth Salander. Actresses includingEllen Page,Mia Wasikowska,Emily Browning, Sara Snook,Rooney Maraand Sophie Lowe are in the running for the part.

It’ll mean the start of a busy period for Daniel Craig, who right now is busy riding horses and battling nasty space invaders in Jon Favreau’s Cowboys&Aliens. The minute he finishes that, he’ll be whipped off to Sweden to start work on Dragon Tattoo.

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr Tie the Knot

"Pirates of the Caribbean"star Orlando Bloom and his longtime model girlfriend Miranda Kerr have secretly wed.

Reps for both stars confirmed to Us Weekly that they exchanged vows, but still no word on when or where.

The happy couple announced their engagement a month ago, and days later, the Victoria's Secret model flashed her gorgeous diamond ring while looking at venues in LA.

Kerr pulled out of her appearance at the Australian department store David Jones and released the following statement on Thursday:

"David Jones very graciously released me during this period so we could celebrate an intimate ceremony and honeymoon together."

Earlier this year, the gorgeous model told Britain's Hello! magazine that she and Bloom were not engaged."I think Orlando is an incredible man and he's a very genuine and authentic individual. I'm grateful that he's in my life. No, we're not engaged. You can't always believe everything you read!"

The Australian catwalk star recently admitted she wasn’t expecting Orlando to propose, but was thrilled when he asked her to marry him. She also revealed the pair were planning to tie the knot in a low-profile ceremony.

"We have been together for a while now and we had talked about it, but when it actually happened it was a total surprise,"she said earlier this month."We have family and friends all over the world so deciding where is a tricky one. We are enjoying being engaged for the time being and will take our time in making any plans. We are both very private so would like it to be intimate and personal."

Miranda also denied she was pregnant but said she was looking forward to starting a family with Orlando in the future and was confident he would be a“great dad”.

According to court documents filed on Tuesday, July 20 in Santa Monica, California, Aniston's stalker was arrested after prowling around a place where the"Marley&Me"actress frequents.

He was found carrying a bag, a note, a roll of duct tape and messages about Miss Aniston, 41.

His car was also carved with large messages reading"I LOVE JENNIFER ANISTON"

According to the restraining order, Peyton has to stay 100 yards away from Aniston's home, places of work and vehicles. He is also banned to make contact with Aniston's employees, agents, managers and other reps.

He is described in the papers as"obsessed"and"delusional".

It is alleged he"drove cross-country in his delusional 'mission' to locate and marry"the 41-year-old actress, who is currently in London to launch a new perfume.

Lindsay Lohan begins prison sentence

Lindsay Lohan has been taken into custody in Los Angeles to serve a jail sentence for probation violation.

The 24-year-old was handcuffed and sent to a women's prison south of the city after appearing before a court.

Lohan, who was jailed after failing to attend alcohol education classes, will enter rehabilitation after her release.

"She is scheduled to be released on either Aug. 1 or 2 for overcrowding issues and good behavior,"L.A. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

It's the long-standing policy of the L.A. County jail system to release nonviolent misdemeanor offenders early due to severe overcrowding.

Lohan, 24, is serving her time alone in a 12-by-8 cell for violating probation in her DUI case.

In ordering Lohan's remand, Judge Marsha Revel ordered TV cameras and photographers not to take pictures of the actress as she was taken away from the Beverly Hills courtroom.

"I don't know exactly how long the jail will keep her. I can only impose the sentence,"said the judge.

Officials have said that Lohan's sentence could be just three weeks for good behaviour and also due to the strain on prison accommodation.

Mobile phones and computers are prohibited at the jail, while Lohan will have to surrender all her jewellery and wear a standard orange jumpsuit.

Lohan spent just 84 minutes of a sentence there two years ago for her 2007 drink-driving and drug possession offences.

Daniel Radcliffe to star in The Woman in Black

Harry Potter starDaniel Radcliffehas landed the lead role in Hammer movie The Woman In Black.

Based on an adaptation of Susan Hill's best-selling novel, Radcliffe will play a young lawyer who finds himself embroiled in a ghostly hostage plot.

The script has been written by Jane Goldman, who wrote the recent box-office hit, Kick Ass. It will be directed by Eden Lake's James Watkins.

"I am incredibly excited to be part of The Woman in Black,"Radcliffe said.

"Jane Goldman's script is beautifully written - both tender and terrifying in equal measure,"he added.

The stage version of Susan Hill's original novel has been terrifying London theatregoers for ages, so the decision by Hammer to take it to the screen seems entirely sensible. And Radcliffe, say what you like for him, has some experience of being scared by supernatural forces.

Hammer became synonymous with the horror genre in the 1950s thanks to films like Dracula and The Mummy.Other famous Hammer films include The Curse of Frankenstein and The Curse of the Werewolf.

Shooting is due to begin in the autumn, presumably with a quick break for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 promotion, and before Radcliffe heads off to star in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying on Broadway, for which he's been taking singing and dance lessons for a couple of years now.

And, of course, the guessing game of who will land the role has already begun.

Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige said in a statement yesterday that the reason Norton wasn't cast is not because of financial reasons,"but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble."HitFix first reported Marvel's decision not to go with Norton.

Andrew Garfield to play Spider-Man

ANDREW GARFIELD CAST AS PETER PARKER IN COLUMBIA PICTURES’ NEXT INSTALLMENT OF“SPIDER-MAN”

After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, Andrew Garfield has been chosen to portray Peter Parker when Spider-Man swings back onto the screen in 3D on July 3, 2012. The new film will begin production in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.

Today’s confirmation culminates what has been one of the most eagerly anticipated casting announcements in recent memory. Bloggers, pop culture speculators, and everyday fans have pored over and analyzed every conceivable online rumor in an attempt to discover the identity of the next actor to play Peter Parker. Garfield will immediately begin preparing for the coveted role.

The Spider-Man franchise is one of the most successful in film history and the three previous motion pictures have collectively grossed more than $2.5 billion in worldwide box office.

On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said,“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, President of Columbia Pictures said,“Spider-Man is a classic superhero -- a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film The Social Network, to his glorious screen test, which flooredall of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker.”

Producer Avi Arad added,“I’m incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future.”

Producer Laura Ziskin said,“We are thrilled to have Andrew Garfield for this new incarnation of Spider-Man under Marc Webb’s direction. We were fortunate enough to meet with a group of fantastically talented young men. In the end, we all agreed that in addition to being an extraordinary actor, Andrew had the right mix of humor, youth, and pathos, along with an underlying sense of strength and power necessary to bring Peter Parker and Spider-Man to life on screen.”

The selection of Garfield was revealed at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment. B-roll footage of the announcement will be available shortly.

Garfield is fast becoming one of the most respected and sought-after young actors working in the industry today. In a short career, spanning only five years, he has already been directed by, and starred alongside, some of the greatest names and received a BAFTA for a role that won him international praise.

Garfield most recently worked with director David Fincher on the upcoming film The Social Network. He previously starred for Spike Jonze on his robot love story I’m Here, which premiered at Sundance this year. He plays the lead male opposite Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan in Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, due for release later this year.

Other notable screen credits include Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus playing opposite Christopher Plummer, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and the late Heath Ledger, Robert Redford’s Lions For Lambs, where he starred alongside Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep; Revolution Films’“Red Riding Trilogy – 1974” directed by Julian Jarrold, where he lead a stellar cast including Rebecca Hall and David Morrissey, and his unforgettable portrayal of a young ex-con in John Crowley’s“Boy A,” for which he earned the best actor BAFTA in 2008.

Garfield’s career began in theatre and in 2006 his performances in“Beautiful Thing” (Sound Space/Kit Productions), “The Overwhelming,” and “Burn / Chatroom / Citizenship” (Royal National Theatre) won him the Milton Shulman Award for Outstanding Newcomer at the Evening Standard awards and the Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer at the Critics CircleTheatre Awards. Other notable theatre credits include “Romeo and Juliet” (Manchester Royal Exchange) and “Kes” (Manchester Royal Exchange), for which he received the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the Manchester Evening News Awards 2004.
